Florence Lai
Piano • Established Artist
From an early age, Florence Lai found a passion for playing the piano. This joy for music has been a fundamental compass in her life which she believes provides all music students and musicians with a sense of community, personal accomplishment, and joy. This belief has been the cornerstone to Florence’s drive to teach piano. Florence sees the opportunity to provide her students with a skillset and a passion for music, which has offered such great benefit in her own life, as a tremendous honour and privilege.
Florence holds a Bachelor of Music in classical piano performance from the University of Auckland under the tutelage of Stephen De Pledge. From a young age, she has completed her ABRSM exams and was asked to perform at a High Achievers Award Concert. Subsequently, Florence went on to complete the grades of the Trinity College of London examination system, achieving distinction in both her ATCL and LTCL at the age of twelve and fourteen respectively.
Florence was awarded a Music Scholarship during her time at Diocesan School for Girls and later won the ACG Parnell College music competition two years in a row. Florence was then asked to represent her school in the Ronisch Secondary Schools Piano Competition. Before that, she would travel across the North Island and compete in many piano competitions throughout the year, doing exceptionally well.
Many of her recent student successes include winners of regional piano competitions and gaining overall top marks in ABRSM exams, performing at the High Achievers Award Concert.
