Wendy Lin graduated from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, where she studied with celebrated French-Romanian pianist Professor Tamás Vesmas (piano performance) and Professor Rae de Lisle (piano accompaniment), graduating with B.Mus. with Honours (Performance) in 1997 and M.Mus. (Performance) with distinction in 1998. Awarded with a bursary, she studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, UK, where she studied with British Pianist Renna Kellaway and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma (Performance) in 1999.
In 1998, Wendy Lin won first prize in North Shore Piano Competition New Zealand and second prize in Kerikeri National Piano Competition, New Zealand. In 2000, she won first prize in the Piano/Violin Millennium Classic Competition, Hong Kong.
Wendy Lin debuted in Hong Kong in 2000 as soloist in Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5, Op. 73 “Emperor” with Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, she recorded a solo piano recital featuring Beethoven, Liszt, and Ravel for broadcast by Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 4. Subsequently, her performances are mostly in chamber music, including a two-piano guest performance at the Chinese Works Piano Competition in 2004, a chamber concert featuring piano trios of Beethoven and Arensky in 2009, and a concert featuring the complete chamber music of Chopin in 2010.
Wendy Lin was a piano tutor at the Education University of Hong Kong from 2003 to 2022. Her students have won the Best Performance and Audience Awards on multiple occasions in the annual Campus Concert.
From 2001-2022, Wendy Lin was tutor and piano accompanist for the Hong Kong Children’s Choir, with whose Concert Choir they had given tour performances in Australia, Austria, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Singapore, and the UK.
From 2011 to 2017, Wendy Lin was piano accompanist for the St. Paul’s Co-Educational College Primary School Junior Choir. They participated in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and won first prize in Primary School Choir–Hong Kong Region–Boys and Girls–Junior Competition in both Chinese Language and Foreign Language Classes in 2012-2016 and best choir in Primary School Choirs Final (Hong Kong Region and Kowloon Region)–Junior Class in 2012-2014.
Wendy now works as a piano tutor and accompanist for Chiron Music Academy, teaching and accompanying music students for examinations of all grades (including all diploma examinations) of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, the Trinity College of Music, and other examination authorities.
